I started with a bag of left over yarn from my big ripple blanket, now all I have left is the black and white yarn.
It's a good size for a lap blanket, and was fun to make, and cost me not a extra penny, I used every bit of my coloured yarns, using each to the last few inches, when you look close up, you can see I changed colour mid way through a round, I wanted this to be messy, random, it's a scrap blanket. The only design I decided from the beginning was to use most of the white for a bigger boarder, and one complete black round to finish, therefore I could use all the yarn, even the smaller lengths, I felt really rewarding not to have any waste. I made an oblong center, which still does not look right, but for my 1st attempt, I'm happy, it makes a good sized blanket.
My final photo, shows my scrap blanket on top of the ripple blanket on my spare bed, I love the shades, they are all from the 4ply Stylecraft range, 100% Acrylic.
My only worry is too much crochet in my home, if any of you watch Gogglebox on Friday evenings, there is one house which has every type of crochet in all colours in their busy sitting room.
I am going to make a pink ripple cot blanket soon, it will be nice to use pink, my hairdresser has just found out she is having a girl.
Beautiful - how I wish I could get the hang of crotchet - it is so difficult from a book.
ReplyDeleteI can only crochet a limited few designs, I have never followed a pattern, but I do hope to be able to try something simple soon.
DeleteIt looks fabulous and great knowing that you've used all the leftovers for something which will get a lot of use. I know the house you mean in Gogglebox, I think they're the Attic 24 blankets that she makes, I recognise the designs.
ReplyDeleteGood for you for using up all your left over yarn! I keep saying I should do that, I have so many small balls of yarn. I know that house you mean on Gogglebox too :-) I think it looks really cosy with all the blankets and books, but I know what you mean, I wouldn't like too much either, I think older houses suit clutter more than new houses anyway.
ReplyDeleteWhat a glorious blanket! The white and black border really brings all the colours together. I still only have one blanket and 2 smaller ones which were gifted. I'm currently making a cover for the storage bench that we have in the hall. Best, Jane :)
ReplyDeleteWell done on using up all your left over yarn, and a very nice looking blanket.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Your blanket is beautiful - so cheerful! I would love to learn more about crochet. I have made a few baby blankets, but I have no idea what type of stitches I used. Just a few things I remember that my grandmother taught me 50 years ago! There is a yarn shop in the next town that gives crochet lessons, and I may try a few this summer.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful colorful blanket!!
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely blanket, I have a few magic knot balls made from my sock leftovers that are destined to become a blanket one day. It is great to use every last scrap, after all you paid good money for it, a real Tah Dah moment.
ReplyDeleteWow, didn't you just start this blanket? It's lovely. Nice work!
ReplyDeleteit took 3 weeks, but it's not huge, the perks of not working, home all day, no children.
DeleteSuch a great finish, its fabulous.
ReplyDeleteCan you have too much crochet in a home?? NEVER .... I've seen the house you mean on gogglebox too and recognised Lucy's blankets from Attic 24.
