I have my tiny net bags ready for the coming weeks, my strawberry tower is bursting into life, I kept a few more babies which are now good plants in more pots. These are the first two berries forming, the plants have loads of flowers, I find it very peaceful placing these bags over the tiny green fruits, they stay on until harvest, it worked very well last year, I had hardly any nibbled, I will leave some uncovered for the bugs and mice.
I finished this book on Wednesday so it was added to last months reading list, another good plot read on my Kindle. Your new bride ask if her parents can move in for a couple of weeks on their return from living in France, they are strange from the start, but that's families for you. They don't want to leave, your wife is scared of them, what have they done. The plot builds to a brilliant ending, just a few chapters before the end of the book, what next, you will have to read to find out. Book 33 read this year.
Wednesday I met daughter in town, we had an early lunch together, it was a nice peaceful time, later I did more sorting in the garage, my bits are less than a third of the space and I've only been in there a couple of years, so not too much to sort, I ordered a storage unit from IKEA which should arrive on Saturday, my bits will be finished on Sunday. Hubby moved his bench and our fridge/freezer, everything has been sorted, loads of stuff has gone.
Thursday we had a couple of quotes to change the garage, one we accepted, the guy was lovely, local and well recomended, so we have until the end of the month to do our bit, we are both excited to make the change. We are able to make changes because we no longer store our garden furniture inside over the winter months, our new set stores quiet small and is great under a cover outside, so we are redefining some of the inside space.
Another couple of days at home sunny warm with that biting cold wind, I really hope the wind dies back and is not a feature for the summer. We are still very dry, one water butt is empty and the other two larges ones are going down quickly, we need rain, there is rain due in the coming days, but its not promised in our area. We have just realised it's a long weekend here, May bank holiday on Monday, makes no difference to us, other than we will stay at home on the Monday, local roads will be busy, we did a shop at Lidl and have everything we need for the coming days.

I've got some beans to start thos weekend too, don't think I'll bother with peas as I didn't do well last year. I hadn't realised it was Bank Holiday either! I hardly ever look at the date anymore. I've seen a mouse a few times in our garden, funnily around our acer too, we have a visiting cat who saw something a few weeks back so not sure if he caught it.
ReplyDeleteI like Adam Frost. It sounds like an enjoyable evening. It's always good to listen to an expert.
ReplyDeleteYour garden is so well ordered. Those little bags are great. I have used them on blueberries.
ReplyDeleteSo pleased you enjoyed your evening with Adam Frost.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the weekend.
All the best Jan
Enjoy your long weekend! We had a very mild summer, which has been followed by the warmest April on record, which in practice meant lovely clear sunny days with cooler evenings but no rain for several months. I have a lot of pots to water. The temperature is to drop and the rain and wind start tomorrow, so May will lead us in to winter. There are loads of flowers still out as they are confused by the weather and I will have to find my warm jumpers out to wear. JennyP
ReplyDeleteThose little net bags are a jolly good idea and one I've never thought of. Im sure I've got some somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI do hope its a mouse you have and not a rat 😨 hopefully the cat will solve the problem for you, Marlene.
I like Adam Frost too. Hes very down to earth....literally! 😀
He was, he's a bit younger than us, but had a similar childhood and did loads of bits the same as us, a honest evening, second half was design and plants.
DeleteI am hoping to get the garden started after the 18th of this month as our last frost should have been the week before.
ReplyDeleteHarvey may plant potatoes before that if the weather cooperates.
God bless.
Thanks for the book recommendation......I have just purchased it for the kindle! 99p. It sounds similar to the one I have just finished. "The Housemaid" by Freida McFadden. It is described as a psychological. thriller and I read it in 2 days. So fed up with the " mind improving" books chosen by my book club that I haven't enjoyed for ages!!
ReplyDeleteI am about a third through " Here to stay"......loving it!
DeleteHow fun that you got to hear Adam Frost in person. We're dedicated "Gardener's World" viewers! I hope whatever's entrancing Lily proves to be something other than a rat -- squirrels, maybe? But we've had rats in our garden too. It's pretty common, I think.
