The whole point of this location was to visit the lost gardens, I had seen small visits by various gardeners on TV. Here is the wilder side of the gardens, we spent over 4 hours here, parts looked very prehistoric.
Not so sure about the rope bridge, it was very wobbly as you reached the middle.
The walk was mainly level, but walking down to the lost valley was steep, the paths had perfect banks with loads of English wildflowers growing, everywhere was so green and lush. Most of the walk back through the jungle was on a wooden bridge, a bit like a boardwalk, looking across and down on the planting, the rope bridge had a one way system which worked.
After we found a small harbour town, with a pub by the sandy beach to have perfect fresh fish and chips for late lunch, huge portions, well cooked, neither of us ate again. We also purchased some pasties to take home with us, I do love local foods, we had a huge scone earlier at Heligan, with fresh cream and bramble jam.
Wow, I've always wanted to visit the Lost Gardens. It was lovely to see your photos, it looks fabulous. You are really making the most of your holiday. Glad the weather is good for you.
ReplyDeleteI remember walking the Jungle with my late father and my wife about 27 years ago. My favourite part of the garden was the walled kitchen garden. The gardeners graffiti on the walls of the bothy was very poignant. They went to fight in the great war and never returned. I would like an apartment in the old Heligan House.
ReplyDeleteI have a post ready from the kitchen garden, which I knew you would love.
DeleteGreat. Have you read the book? I have it somew.
ReplyDeleteLovely to see photos from your holiday, you chose the right week for it weatherwise.
ReplyDeleteOh wow you’re doing my bucket list trip! Sadly in all probability age and poverty means it will never happen. Really enjoying the pictures. JennyP
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a wonderful place to visit and get lost in.
ReplyDeleteWe love Heligan, visited many times over the years, I preferred it to the Eden Project, although that's a totally different place of course. You've had perfect weather.
ReplyDeleteI love Heligan but we haven't visited for a good many years. Thank you for sharing the photos. It all looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteNow I have scone and clotted cream envy! 😋
Enjoy the rest of your holiday, Marlene,

I did enjoy seeing your photographs.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful visit.
All the best Jan
It looks lovely. We've camped a few times next door at Heligan Woods & gone to their cafe for breakfast but never actually been into the gardens, probably due to lack of funds with 3 small kids in tow back in the day.
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous gardens. I love the mud maiden.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
The whole area looks beautiful but I would struggle with that bridge I think these days. Still you never know! The mud maiden looks like she is enjoying her restful bed.
