Poppy Patchwork

My little bit of this big World

At home with the Jones

I am so very pleased to see new growth on this lemon plant
The little one is an orange plant.
I just need my lime pips to start growing.
We came home on Wednesday to find these in bloom.
Every time I see this pot it improves.
We had a relaxing day yesterday at home, not doing anything much, just pottering about. Most of my garden is now easier work, dead heading flowers and a few things to harvest, it's time for us to enjoy our outside space.
Plus I have my sewing machine out, I'm making another bag,
 more of that next time.
We watched Hugh Fearnley-Whittingsall's war on waste last night, loved him taking on Amazon, but more importantly him taking on the coffee chains. We do not buy coffee very often when out, but I do I prefer to drink it out of china cups, I will confess to loving Starbucks coffee and will always choose them.
The numbers of cups thrown away is staggering, I hate to use any plastic/ paper cups, we have them in work, but I keep my own cup and glass to refill, the girls in my department chuckle at my ways, but the more of us who make decisions to be mindful of the waste our modern world creates the sooner things will change.
We are trying a few make do and mend tricks, if they work I will let you know, just little things to prolong the life of objects, do you have a good make do and mend tip to share?

  1. It's a nice time of year in the garden, most of the hard work is done and it's time to sit back and enjoy it all. I didn't catch that programme, I'll have to see if I can find it on catch-up.

  2. I watched it last night, I loved the repair classes that were being run, I have never visited those coffee shops so I dont know what the options are for cups, can you take your own cup for a take away ? The waste I hate is fruit and vegatbles in wrappers people are just too lazy to weigh it out, they should put a waste tax levi on things like that

  3. I watched that programme too. Very interesting. I rarely, if ever, buy coffee or tea. Scandalous that they were suggesting their businesses were eco friendly, when the millions of cups they use aren't even recyclable in this country. I'll be even less likely to buy one now.

  5. I didn't see the programme, but we usually buy coffees to drink in rather than take away. I must watch it. I've started to think about waste more lately and am now taking my lunchtime roll to work in a tub, rather than a sandwich bag or clingfilm. Your agapanthus is lovely, and is that a gladioli? 8. Gorgeous gardenry Marlene. I think HFW is a fantastic human being who is using his celebrity for real good. I think maybe I have one Costa fortune coffee a year. I've never had a Starbucks! I refuse to pay the ££££
