As always one job leads to another in a small garden, add in Lilly checking everything we do, and there's not alot of space. I always leave the raspberry canes on top of the bed to rot down, feeding the soil. Lots of pots have been sorted, the butternut squash plant was going yellow, so I cut it back. Hubby cut down the height on my two obelisk, they will be used for the tomato plants, the tops can be used in the flower beds, nothing is wasted.
I have packed away loads of my grow bags, they worked well, I now have space on the path in front of the greenhouse, I still have a couple tubs of potatoes and carrots. I do like the fruit and veg sections to be tidy, the flower beds I don't cut back, as it's a good habitat for the wildlife in cooler months. My greenhouse works hard this time of year, it's still nice and warm inside, good for small plants and cuttings.
Daughter shared her germs this week, I have had a bad cold, sore throat and ear ache, feeling quite yuck, spent a couple lazy mornings in bed, sometimes you just need to give in and let the bugs run their course. Hubby has picked them up as well, so a lazy week at home, we rebooked our dentist as we were not well enough to go today, we have no plans, storm Amy is due, most will miss the south, we have already had a stormy night.

Oh no…I hope that you get better very soon! You need soup! ๐ฅฃ ๐
ReplyDeleteWe seemed to have missed the worst of the weather, last night. However, looking at the weather radar, I think we are in for a wet day, which will ruin my plans to do some bulb planting.
Re Autumn…I know how you feel as I used to feel that way. But I bought myself a lovely garden planner to scribble in my thoughts and ideas and I’ve a few gardening books to read.
I’ve also noticed that my local nursery has loads of Gaultheria procumbens…maybe you could dot a few of those around as they are really cheery little plants. You may have those already but it was just a thought. Sal ๐
We have homemade tomato soup here, great for our bugs. Just looked up the plant, its much like pyracantha, which i have a couple.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you're not feeling well. You're right to give in and let it take its course. Fighting through it is unnecessary and can be harmful. Your blog acts as a sort of garden journal, doesn't it? Very helpful!
ReplyDeleteGardening is my main good weather hobby, I do like to record what I've been doing here, soon my post will be full of craft and reading.
DeleteWe have been slowly getting things ready for winter. A few of my annual tubs have been emptied and more will be done over the next few weeks.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
You are putting your garden to bed as ours is waking up.
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Our blueberries are all in tubs. A couple have been buried into the soil in tubs on our plot at the allotment, but we need to move them. They are currently next to the communal water trough and sometimes get damaged when people throw watering cans into it and miss.
