February round-up

I purchased some new linen for my cross stitch, I do have loads, sadly none are white, I spend most of my time reading, garden spend not too bad, nothing on clothes or footwear.

I have read 10 books this month

We needed nothing for the house, car had it's MOT, it passed no issues, just the cost of two new tyres. We looked at our finances this month, with so many prices rising, we wanted to ensure we were on a good path, firstly because hubby changed broadband, our mobile phones and joined a price held gas and electric contact, our bills have not gone up as high as we feared, we are saving money on the mentioned contracts, it really does pay to change suppliers often. We did have an extra expensive, daughters windscreen on her car has a huge crack, which is not covered by her insurance policy, to replace would take a huge chunk her savings, so we paid half.

No waste food at all, my focus on food is now what is in the little processed food we purchase, looking at labels and trying to avoid all the different oils and sugars/sweeteners added to prolong shelf life or to make ingredients cheaper. Swapping to better choices, I have never drunk fizzy drinks, I dislike any type of cola and eat very few snack bits, so a huge chunk of the market we already ignore.

The couple of pounds put on in December are lingering, I am trying to be good and a few pounds. I am becoming more active again, and trying to cut back on chocolate, which is always my downfall.

  1. I try to avoid all the Ultra Processed Food too. A lot is so unnecessary... though some would say it's necessary to keep food mixed and last longer. That's the trouble I guess, it's what people rely on for convenience.
I've always tried to cook from scratch, so that makes things easier. Talking of chocolate, I buy Tesco Dark Milk Chocolate which isn't overly processed. I was shocked that Cadbury's is no longer called Dairy Milk Chocolate (cocoa too low to cut costs), it's now called Dairy Milk. I always loved Cadbury's x

    1. I knew that about Cabury, I don't purchase that brand anymore.

  2. Mark changed our energy onto a cheaper tariff just before the prices went up again and he changed our broadband in January, you have to keep on top of the price increases and look for better options, gas and electric are ridiculous!
I've been avoiding processed food for a long time and don't use any oil, only olive oil or butter now, it takes me ages to shop because I always look at the ingredients, it's stopped me buying a lot of things. Doesn't matter how old our children are they still need the bank of mum and dad occasionally, lol

    1. We are the same, far too many unwanted extras in so many items.

  4. You have done very well, I wish I could remove a few things from our grocery list, but I will keep trying. I did manage to cut grocery costs by quite a bit and I hope to continue doing so. Chocolate and ice cream are my downfall.

    God bless.

    1. We cook from scratch these days, using less ingredients which reduces our grocery bills.

  5. You get nothing for loyalty these days, it always pays to shop around. We're on an EV tariff for our electricity as we have an electric car. It means we get super cheap electricity overnight. We changed to a fixed gas tariff though, we won't feel the increase when it comes in April.
