Resting

This will be my 20th book this year.
I have not been in the mood for knitting,
I do plan to get this finished this week.
I am in the mood for crochet, I am using the 2nd ball of each colour, it's getting to a nice size, I am loving the design I choose to make, I will work until all the yarn is used.

I have done very little in the garden, the morning after I sorted my Olive, I got up with back ache, it in the same place as I always get it, telling me it was stupid to lift all the pots, so I am resting. I can't sit still and do nothing, can't watch TV for any length of time, so far I have read 2 books and done some crafting. This morning my back is much better, rest always sorts the issue, but still I won't be doing much outside.
We had a quiet weekend at home, well we were quiet, but a few of our neighbours were doing projects in their gardens, which set the dogs next door barking, they do bark more at weekends, any different noise sets them off.
We have heard nothing from mad cat woman on the other side, but hubby has set bait boxes again as the rats are back, we found a dead rat on Sunday in our garden. The rats are at the bottom of the garden, in the shrubs, but Purdy our cat spend loads of time sat watching the area.
Sadly this morning my new bed by the back door has been dug in, the holes are to small for a cat or fox to make, so I fear the rats are coming closer to our house, we don't think they can get in, another email has been sent to environmental health, but they are not bothered unless they get into our house.
We had a great day with Will on yesterday, he was outside most of the day, it's breezy, sunny and warm here, no where as hot as it was on Saturday, I prefer it a bit cooler, you can be outside and do things in the lower heat.

  1. Hope your back gets easier - we have invested in one of those little upright parcel/truck trolleys and it moves the pots and bags of garden compost about a treat. I have also noticed that over the few weeks I have been to yoga class that my back is strengthening little by little - I can now sit up straight for longer before the ache sets in - I can recommend it.
Sorry to hear about the rats - they can be a problem - we get tham up in the cottage garden as our wood adjoins the pub carpark and the owners are not very good at keeping the lids closed on their industrial bins - they don't even seem to understand that the rats climb up and into the bins at night you can see the teeth mark in the black bags - where there is food there will be a rat. Lets hope the bait works - we are finding the only stuff a lay person can buy now is less effective so you may have to call a professional in to smoke them out.

    1. The nest is not in our garden, but they come through, we have removed most of the bird feeders, so there is no food on the ground.

  2. Oh no, I hope you get the rats sorted, you don't want them in your house. I'm not in the reading, knitting or crochet mood at the moment, I don't know what's wrong with me, well I do, I just can't settle to anything at the moment for long. The blanket's looking lovely, you'll have it finished in no time.

  3. I hope the issue with the rats gets sorted, you wouldn't want them in your house! I've been reading loads this year too helped along with audio books, which i'm loving. The blanket is coming along lovely, crochet is easy to pick up and work when you don't want to concentrate too much. Hope your back is better today.

  5. The blanket is looking really lovely, it will be super for the new baby. Hope you can get the rat problem sorted, that's not a nice thing to have in your lovely garden. I've done a little stitching this week, it was ages since I'd picked up a needle and thread

  6. Oh, rats.... every time I am sick to death of raccoons killing my chickens you write about rats and I think "ok, it could be much worse".
How long do you think it takes to make a pair of socks? Are they something that someone who has never knitted could try or they advanced?

    1. I have sent you an email with the link to Winwick Mum's blog, follow her basic sock pattern. I can knit a pair for myself in a couple of weeks, much depends on how much time you have, but I now do not use the pattern, making so many socks has allowed me to know the design from memory.

  7. Hope you get the rat issue sorted. We do feed birds at the bird table but have 4 or so big fat pigeons that eat all the dropped seeds. Everytime the birds appear usually twice a day, the pigeons turn up and take up their station. Hope your back improves soon, Cathy x

    1. Pigeons and blackbirds clear our path, we do not put out seeds anymore, the birds love sunflower hearts, peanuts and mealworms.

  8. I do enjoy Jodi Picoult books but not read one in a while. Love the colours of your socks they will be gorgeous when finished so do hope you get your mojo back soon. The colours of your ripple blanket blend so well together too.
