Nothing on craft, I started my garden month well, Fridays garden shopping boosted the total.
I did get a couple of new soft jumpers for the spring season, no reason other than I liked them and some underwear.
10 Books read this month.
This month is always expensive, car MOT, insurance and tax, we had budgeted for it, the insurance was the same as the pervious year, so we stayed with the same company, tax is only £30, it's not increased since we purchased the car. MOT just one advisory for breaks not unexpected.
We have made a good saving, our internet contract ends in a couple of months, Virgin has doubled their price for the second year, so we have gone with a local firm who is receiving loads of great comments, they have done all the installation and its working well, they give us free connection until our Virgin contract expires, we always requie a mesh to boost our signal inside the bungalow, the new firm has been really on the ball, the customer service desk have helpful people who we can understand. It's great when things go right and at a better price. Another bonus I can now see all post from Chris at Always Smiling.
Just a few bits of food waste, having the children here made a huge difference. We have been sent the council food waste bins, I won't be using them much, most of our peelings, egg shells and other kitchen bits go into my composter, I already have a covered container I use in the kitchen, I will put teabags, onion skins and pepper bits, which I don't compost, we are going to keep the bigger bin outside. Daughter is apprehensive about the system, her kids waste far too much food, it's going to be a shock for her, hopefully she can try and reduce amounts.
My weight is stable, small portions are working, I am walking a bit, not everyday, it's been too wet for that. It did wobble over Valentine's weekend, we did have Prosecco and chocolates.

A good month!
ReplyDeleteI hope it augurs well for the rest of the year.
ReplyDeleteOur council is trialling food waste collections in other areas of the city to ours. I think people will get a shock as to how much food they actually waste when this comes into force around the country, I think it will bring it home just how much there is when you can see it all there in one bin.
ReplyDeleteI overindulged over Valentines weekend and am still trying to get back on track.
ReplyDeleteWe use council composting and usually only have a few tiny compost bags containing odds and ends. We eat almost everything.
ReplyDeleteI got my first composter when our council started charge to collect garden waste, since then I have a second composter and 2 leaf mulch bins. We are very good with food waste, ensuring portion sizes are right and no food waste.
DeleteOur council should be supplying food waste bins in March but have announced they can't afford it yet. We don't waste much food either so there won't be much to put out anyway. It's just another thing to keep remembering ie what goes in where!

"10 Books read this month" well done :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Sounds like a pretty good month
ReplyDeleteWe had the food scheme a good few years ago and I loved doing it. Like you I had a compost bin but it really did help me deal with food waste. The biggest thing was portion control - I realised I was doing far too much as it was mostly food scrapings. Not much. But it made stop, oh I'll just do a couple more potatoes when I already had done enough etc. anyway they have reinstated it and the new shiny and slightly more stylish silver grey bins have been delivered! Challenge accepted! I no longer have the compost bin so peelings and egg shells etc will bulk it out more. But I have started washing veg and not peeling things if I can help it, so we shall see!
ReplyDeleteI think I am on book this year, I envy the number of books you read in a life that seems busier than mine.
ReplyDeleteWe were issued with the food waste bins, which we won't use - we compost everything we can (bar cooked foods) and we eat left overs. So for the moment the bins are sitting in the garage until we find a 'job' for them - seems a bit of a waste of money - not every one needs them.
