Our magnolia tree has put on so much growth this summer, after a poor spring with no flowers, we have had summer flowers, here before it's cut back. I have been using grey water for this tree and my acer,
Now looking much better, we always use the same guy to keep this tree small (they can grow huge), hubby got the shredder out and all the waste is in my mulch bins, hopefully loads of mulch for next spring.
My pond is looking good, so many birds and Lilly drink from here so I keep it topped up, the water hyacinth has new growth, this area is in shade most of the day, it only gets evening sunshine in the summer months, our magnolia gives it so much shade. There are other water spots around the garden which I keep full of water for wildlife.
The garden is not so bad, the plastic grass helps, a green lawn always makes the view better, this summer the left hand side of the garden has become our patio, which is silly as it's been a patio for 3 years, now we use the whole area, it gets sunshine all morning and into the afternoon, by mid afternoon there is shade.
Sadly our horrible neighbour has caused issues again, we got the guys to cut back the overgrown vegetation along the boundary in the front of our house, he was very professional and ensured he kept to the boundary, she came out and accused him of cutting the front section over the pavement, and started shouting. Hubby had taken photos before the work started and afterwards, needless to say, our lovely guy had not touched the front. Hubby has sent her an email as we still have the cuttings, the arborist will collect later in the week. I am hoping she is not causing him any issues, if she continues I will report her once again to police for harassment.
Portsmouth Water who supplies our water has issued a statement, which says they have no plans to issue a hosepipe ban, their water comes from under ground water and one river, their supply is always topped up in the wetter months, and whilst levels are lower, if everyone helps they should manage through this spell. Which is brilliant news, they are known for quickly repairing any leaks as well, so their management is better than most water companies, we use as much grey water as we can. The rest of Hampshire is with Southern water, who has a terrible reputation for leaks and mismanagement.
It's extremely sad to see huge fires in the new forest after a van caught fire on Monday which started the crisis, the main road south is still closed, and not due to open until later next week, whilst the fire is under control, its still a huge risk.

It's sad about the New Forest fire. It must have been really worrying for motorists who had to abandon their cars.
ReplyDeleteOur magnolias are flowering again - lovely to see.
It's looking lovely.
ReplyDeleteSo sad about the fire.
I do like the shape of your magnolia tree.
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame about all the fires the UK and other countries are experiencing...sad and rather scary. Full marks to the firefighters and all the emergency services that work together to keep us safe.
All the best Jan
We have a magnolia that we were gifted as a tiny plant when we got married. It is now huge and had its first visit by the tree man last year. It looked a lot better but has now got so thick. Its prune seems to have really encouraged growth and it will need doing again before long. Luckily we planted it in a good spot and it is great for shade on our patio, which is sometimes frustrating but this year has been most welcome. I do find though that there are not many months when it’s not dropping something … flowers … seed pods … leaves 🙈
ReplyDeleteOur tree was in the garden and still small, we decided not to let it get big.
DeleteYour neighbour sounds truly awful. She should be glad to live next to someone that takes care of their garden. Come and live next door to me. 😃
ReplyDeleteWe have a lovely neighbour on the orher side, the other woman just hates people and anyone in authority.
DeleteI'm sorry to hear that your neighbour is still causing problems, I don't know how you cope with it. There's no hosepipe ban here either but there was one in place last year from July right through until the middle of December.
ReplyDeleteLuckily for us she has long periods where she does not hother us, she hates her other neighbour and is horrible to her more often. We just e joy our garden and ignore her.
DeleteI'm glad you will be spared a hosepipe ban. Your neighbor sounds like a nightmare! Glad you had pictures to prove her wrong.
ReplyDeleteNightmare is one way of describing her.
DeleteSo sorry about the neighbours . Glad yo have been able to get away and enjoy that hot tub ! Wow! I've never been in a hot tub before , must be so nice in this hot weather .
ReplyDeleteYour neighbour is being totally unreasonable and plain awkward. I'm so sorry that you have to live next to her. We have also been spared the hosepipe ban but are still careful with our usage.
ReplyDeleteWell done to your water supplier for being more proactive. I wish others would do similar.
So sorry to hear you are having more problems with your neighbour. People can be so difficult sometimes. I too was very sad to hear of the fire in the New Forest. I hope the ponies were OK. Everytime I look at the news recently there have been terrible stories of destruction. It is heartbreaking. Lucky you for having such a good water company. We're on a hosepipe ban, but never use one anyway.
