Grace will be 19 years old in May,
she is the oldest cat I have had by far,
Purdy is 13 years old.
From the day she came to live with us she has been my cat, hubby had his male cat, Thomas, who sadly was taken from us far to early. I fell in love with her colours, she is beautiful, her green eyes always very clear.
She is a very independent cat, being female she has never gone far from our garden, she is tiny and for a while we had to watch her as the cats next door were coming into the garden and attacking her. She does love to be outside as much as she can, finding sun and shade when she needs them.
Purdy is our guard cat, she came to live with us in 2011, she was a stray and we think she was about a year old, a friend rescued her, but she did not like their dogs, so we had her. She is a female, we took her to be doctored, the vets found no female internal organs, she has loads of male traits, but does not roam. She has always looked after Grace.
These days Grace is either asleep in her basket next to Purdy in her basket, or on my lap, we think she is a bit deaf, as when asleep she can be startled, she still eats well, and is in good health, we don't take to the vets so much, as she is not happy being prodded and poked.
I think a bit of forgetfulness is setting in, since we retired we have fed the cats wet food at 4pm, just before we have our evening meal, these days she wakes up mid-afternoon and from 3ish she yowls for her tea, Purdy is always in the shadows, just in case we give in and feed them early, it's now her daily thing, just in case we ever forget them, there is always dried food out for them.
Neither cats leave our back garden anymore, female cats don't normally roam, and both being older they are happy to stay close to home, which at this time is good, because there are issues with cats going missing and being hurt, not in our village but close by.
Our cats, Kimmy 1975 - 1987, Tiger 1986 to 2000, Ollie 1988 to 2001, Timmy 2001 to 2004, Tommy 2001 to 2010, Grace 2005 and Purdy 2011. Most of the time we have had two cats together, Kimmy, Grace and Purdy were all females, both Ollie who we adopted and Timmy we had as a kitten were hit by cars, when we lived in our previous address. I don't have decent enough photo's of our earlier cats to show here but I do have wonderful memories, we have never had a unfriendly cat.
Grace is such a pretty cat and Purdy is very striking. Cats are wonderful companions.
ReplyDeleteAwww, Grace and Purdy are both beautiful girls. We had Jake, a black and white tom cat from 1990 to 2004, he was quite a character and a handsome boy. I still miss him. It's sad to see our pets age, Archie is thirteen now, which is old for a Cavalier with the health issues that many of them have.
ReplyDeleteOur previous cat was 20 when she died in a car accident. She grew up with the kids. Our current cat is 12 - I hand reared her having been found abandoned as a feral at approx 3wks of age. I thought she'd grow up to be the friendliest cat ever!! I was wrong!! Seems she never got rid of her feral traits. She's a biter!!
ReplyDeletePurdy has retained some of her earlier habits, she woofs her food down, won't sit on your lap, and chases everything, luckily she does not bite.
DeleteGrace and Purdy are beautiful. We lost Jasper our very handsome tabby in January 2022, he had thyroid problems but also developed cat's alzheimers, forgetting where his food dish and dirt trays were, and also become incontinent at the end. He was also brilliant with our granddaughter. Just a week ago we have adopted Sheva a little black and white girl, 2 years old and so friendly and curious. Its a joy to have her.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty lady Grace is. We lost our Shania a couple of years back at almost 22 years of age. We still miss her, but will not replace her. I just make do with our Grandcat when she visits here or we go to our son's place to visit.

When we are down to one cat we will stay that way, our daughter has said if I want a cat she will adopt it, should anything happen to us, it's satisfying to know, I can always have a feline friend.

Grace and Purdy are beautiful ladies. It's lovely how Purdy looks out for Grace. Since our son has started fostering kittens who have had a poor start to life we are discovering the joy of their company.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great age she is living to. As a child, we had 4 cats. One lovely Tom and a fiesty little female cat , who then had two male kittens which we kept. She hated them though and would hiss at them if they came close to her. Sadly, all of our cats got killed by cars. We lived on a main road into the village. I didn't realise that female cats don't roam so much. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteAww they are both lovely. My Millie was 19 when we lost her last year, we don't think she could not hear very well and like Grace a bit of dementia had set in. Our other cat Molly is 18 this year and not doing too well, she is on medication and with luck and a lot of love from us will carry on for for a while yet. We had cats growing up and I've always had cats while married, not sure I would have anymore though . Millie was one of the gentlest cats I've ever had and I still miss her little face. Molly is more fussy and likes to be by me whenever I'm sitting, she is also gentle, not a nasty bone in either of them.
