October roundup

Really low spending this month, everything shown in red is crafting items towards Christmas gifts, and some bargain yarn, nothing much in the garden. I got a poinsettia sprig with 3 flowers on for Christmas, to make a new plant look bigger.

Not clothes or shoes, I have everything I require for the winter months ahead. We are now purchasing items for Christmas, we have decided again on a price limit for gifts to each other, there is very little we want, and we don't see the need to buy stuff just because it's Christmas.

Nothing in the house, we are very comfortable here, after 11 years, everything is just as we want it. Heating has been turned on, but not until after mid month.

One expense this month was to renew our passports, not cheap, but necessary, we now have the navy blue covers for the British Isles, rather than the burgundy EU covers.

I have lost a couple of pounds this month, we are now having homemade veggie soups for lunch, porridge for breakfast with fruit, all very filling, which means a much smaller evening meal, and more importantly not so much chocolate.

On bloggy reading. I’ve resisted the heating on so far ! And I stocked up with logs for the fire and it’s been that mild, not needed to light it yet!

  2. I, too, am comfortable and have everything I need. Trite gifts, given only because the giver feels they should, can be more a pain than a pleasure to receive. When I give gifts now, I try and make them consumable (like flowers or food - or chocolate!).
    Have a happy day :)

  4. I am intrigued by your spending chart, do you have a post on how you did this or could you explain how you worked it out? I am looking for a way to be more mindful of what my husband and I spend. We will set a limit on gift expenses before we start purchasing items in the coming week. I am working on a few gift items and hope to have them completed in a few weeks. I really enjoy your posts. Thank you and I hope you have a great week.

    1. I use an excel spreadsheet with sum function. If I want to focus on our spending, I print out a calender 4 week page and record all our spending, I also keep the receipts, it's a good way to show where our money is going, hubby hates doing it, but it works.

  6. This past weekend was Halloween for the kids which means there are a LOT of chocolates sitting around the house. I tell myself it "doesn't count" if it's a candy they don't eat, like chocolate carmels. Still my pants are tight for some odd reason?
