What are you reading

My hallway book shelves.
On this lower shelf,
I keep a book from authors I have enjoyed reading,
in each case it will be my favorite book if I have read more than one.
Craft books on my craft shelves.
Books in the spare bedroom,
Ready to be taken home if not finished.
Alistair McLean books,
I loved his stories, for years he was my favourite author.
I have had this set since the 70's
Loved this set of books, sadly Sue Grafton died before Z for Zero, was finished.
I keep both A and Y on my shelf.
This is the only book I have read twice, once when I was at school, my English teacher gave me a copy. I read it again last year, just to see if its impact on me had changed, which it did not.
I have just finished this book,
I guessed the plot early on, but it was still a good read.

I have been asked, who is my favourite author, there are so many good authors around, we are so lucky to have so many good story lines to read. My fellow bloggers always list good books they have read, leading to me to new exciting books. I am a book worm always have been, my mum used to nag me to pack away the book and go to sleep, I always had a torch under my bed so I could read after lights out. I always have books, in this house I have less books, I decided not to keep every book I owned, I rarely read a book twice.
It's a question I can't answer, it would be like saying which is my favourite daughter.
Who do you love, what do you recommend I should be reading.

  1. Like you I have always been a reader too, I always had my nose in a book when I was younger. Years ago I would read everything Harold Robins had out, later I had a Daniel Steel addiction. Now I will read lots of different genres. I too only keep certain books now, my Bill Bryson ones, anything history related, my Harry Potter books and then any book that I've really enjoyed. I'm re-reading My Dear I Wanted To Tell You by Louisa Young, I read it in 2018 but I don't think I was in the right frame of mind to read it at that time, i'm enjoying it much more this time round.

    1. I gave my Harry Potter set to my eldest grandson, he loved them and passed them to his younger brother to read.

  2. I love looking at people's bookshelves and seeing what they enjoy reading, though I don't keep many books on my own bookshelves. Like you, I rarely read a book twice so I don't bother keeping most of them. The book I've read the most is To Kill a Mockingbird, I've read that more than once or twice, reading it first at school, I reread it when Daniel was studying it for his English Literature GCSE and I've read it again since.

  3. I love Jenny Colgan books and Carole Matthews books. Nothing smutty or nasty. They are just gentle easy reads. My shelves are filled with craft books of all varieties. I'm a bit of a craftoholic

  4. I love looking at bookshelves, a great idea in your spare room for visitors, I like that.
So many good authors always writing. Quite a few new ones with good debut books too. It's hard being part of my book group to pick a favourite, all the other people come along each week with a recommendation. At the moment I am reading Anita Shreve, Fortune's Rocks - that was recommended by Justine (blogger) on the Needlecraft Haven forum for the June read, but as its older it took a while for my library to get a copy. Book group summer read will be (we all read the same 4 times a year, seasonally, and read our own books at other times) is Rachel Hore, Last Letter home.

  5. I did Eng Lit at school and it was my fave subject after science. I found 1984 a bit hard going, but I loved To Kill a Mockingbird. This was how I got hooked on the classics. I love all of Dickens, Jane Austen, the Brontes, I have most on my Kindle and I'll re-read them over and over. I love to read some of the lesser known authors like M.E. Braddon. Best, Jane x

  6. I love that so many books from the past are now being republished by publishers like Persephone, Dean st Press and The British Library Crime Classics. So with all those and new authors coming along hopefully we'll never run out of reading.
I have all the Sue Grafton, collected from charity shops but have only read up to L so far. wonder if someone will be allowed to finish Z for her.She probably had notes about it if it was started.

    1. Her instructions were for no one to finish any books of hers and none of them to be made for TV or film, so sadly we will never read the final book and know what happens to Kinsey.

  7. Nice to see your bookshelves.
Our blogging friend Jo keep talking about books by JoJo Moyles. I've not read any yet but I intend to change that.

    All the best Jan
